Looking both ways

This motto illustrates the colour and wood trends of 2016. Indeed, in order to shape the future, we need the inspiration of the past - that is, an inspiring glance in both directions. In this way, the trends and ideas of tomorrow can emerge from apparent contrasts.

Colour of the Year: Ochre gold

As we were searching for a colour that would reflect the trend of looking both ways, we noticed that all the main trends for 2016 contained an element of gold. We therefore opted for ochre gold. On the one hand, it is bright enough to attract attention; on the other, it complements other colours beautifully.

Trend overview:

Trend: Heritage & Future - Strengthening our identity

In order to shape the future, we need to learn to value the past. For us, this means taking inspiration from the past, creating identity and boosting self-confidence. Translated into a colour palette, red shades reflect our rich heritage whilst also conveying a bright and modern feeling that points to the future.

Trend: Words & Pictures - Strengthening our identity

Storytelling is a successful combination of texts and images that produces living stories in people's minds. The corresponding colour palette uses the blue of ink and the grey of graphite contrasted with shades often associated with Smartphones and social media.

Trend: Dark & Light - Celebrating the night

It has been proven how important it is for all living organisms to be able to sleep undisturbed and recover without the influence of light. The brilliance of the colours and the play of light are best captured when contrasted with dark shades. Many colours in this palette merge seamlessly and recall the colours of the dawn and twilight.

Trend: The Grid and Letting Go - Freedom within a grid

Using organic shapes in product design illustrates how fantasy can develop and flourish without the restrictions of a fixed grid. This is why the colours of this palette are playful, but are kept in check by the black and white of the grid.
