If varnishes/paints shall be used for coating wooden surfaces on shop equipment in food-contact applications, an independent testing institute should confirm harmlessness in accordance with Art. 31, par. 1, of the Foodstuffs and Consumer Goods Law before. The test covers three areas:
The results of the examination are recorded in a test certificate and, as the case may be, the harmlessness will be certified. This test is mandatory, e. g., for the internal coating of food tins.
